Hello there WordPress!
It’s been a long time (almost a year, I think?) since I last posted on this page. Well, to summarize the reason why I haven’t written an entry for almost a year, it is because I forgot my account’s password on WordPress (funny and foolish isn’t it?). 2017 was truly a blessed year for me because finally after a year of having an unstable job, I got hired at a government hospital. *Congrats self* HAHA! It’s really hard for me to spend time on this hobby especially when you have shifting schedule. It takes time for me to adjust on having a shifting schedule plus the workload on a government hospital is different from my previous hospital that I have been affiliated which is a private setting. Anyway, the important thing is, here I am and ready to relive and reinvigorate this page. Wohooo!
Let me start this blog by continuing my supposed to be last year’s entry. I purposely cut this entry into two parts for me to have a not-so-lengthy post. This entry entails my adventure on Mount Kitanglad traverse to Mount Dulang-dulang.
Conquering mountains is not just a hobby, past time or sports. It is an opportunity to witnessed how magnificent God is – views that few people can behold and blissfully cherish on it. Also, it teaches us on how to be positive despite of having hard time conquering the summit. In mountaineering, you will learn to appreciate and enjoy the small luxuries in life like the water we normally drink in the city or at home, when you have it at the summit, it is like you’re having the most potable water you had in your life. These are few reasons on why climbing a mountain is an
addiction. This traverse provides us with an unforgettable moments in life. In this climb, I met new friends, new learning opportunities and another lessons in life.
This famous mountain of the south is remembered as the crash site of Flight 387 of Cebu Pacific last February 1998 (Mount Lumot to be specific). Mount Sumagaya traverse Mount Lumot is located in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental. After that crash incident, this has been a popular hiking destination here in Northern Mindanao aside from the famous “Kitanglad-Dulang-dulang traverse or KD2” in Bukidnon. It has an elevation of 2248+ MASL for Mount Sumagaya and 2320+ MASL for Mount Lumot making it as a 3-4 days climb. For the hardcore, it can be done by a 2-3 day climb. Some of the blogs that I’ve read would say, it would be better if we had this climb as Mount Lumot traverse Mount Sumagaya but in this case, we do the reverse to save time because Mount Sumagaya’s jump-off is much nearer to Cagayan De Oro City than Mount Lumot. The PART I of this blog entails the venture of our Mount Sumagaya climb.
Mount Talomo or Mount Kolelan (as what the locals called this mountain) has an elevation of 2,674+ MASL which is listed as top 15 highest mountain in the Philippines. Due to forest fire happened in Mount Apo last March 2016 which leads to its temporary closure, Mount Talomo is now the new hiking destination in Southern Mindanao. This mountain is mostly forested and moss. At the summit, rewarding view of Mount Apo awaits. Sometimes Mount Matutum can be visibly seen. In terms of difficulty, it is rated with a 7/9 difficulty and has a 2-4 trail class.
After we have our Mount Ulap climb in which it gave us a warmed up and wonderful views, our next climb was the beautiful and highest peak in Luzon, MOUNT PULAG.
Mount Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon (2,922+ MASL) and rated as top 3 highest mountains in the Philippines. This mountain is considered to be one of the most beautiful with a very majestic ocean of clouds (I didn’t used the word “sea of clouds” because it’s too mainstream haha!) and possibly the most breathtaking scenery among all mountains here in the Philippines. There are at least 3 most common trails in which climbers can have: Ambangeg, Akiki and Tawangan Trail. Ambangeg Trail was the easiest among them. Akiki and Tawangan Trail have different type of difficulty and specs but based on ratings, they are both 7/9 trail difficulty.
This “mini-Mount Ugo” as what other mountaineers and locals described the mountain showcases stunning views of the neighboring mountains, grassland ridges, pine trees and burial caves upon descending. Mount Ulap Eco-Trail is located in Itogon, Benguet. A 30-40 minute ride away from Baguio City will do to reach the said place. It is a very feasible day-hike climb with a 5-6 hours trek and very established trails.
Mountain climbing is one of the trending outdoor activity nowadays. I’ve seen a lot of posts on different social media about “Buhis-Buhay Shots”, “Sea of Clouds”, “Selfie na nakatalikod para makita ang view haha!” and a lot more. Like most big challenges though, the feeling and satisfaction on reaching the peak gives a vast sense of fulfillment, achievement and success which ensures a feeling that can last a lifetime.
